A group of Muslims came together to host the ‘the Big Gay Iftar’ in a bid to promote solidarity and tolerance.

The event in London was attended by gay and lesbians from across London.

Organisers held the event in response to the Orlando shootings.

Mas told Channel Four, “It’s hard enough being religious person and LBGT.

“Orlando’s not changed my attitude. I think more than anything it has changed people’s attitude towards me. And I think that’s the biggest change.”

He added, “If some people are welcoming then that’s brilliant. If some people have a problem then I’m going to challenge that and say look I’m just as much as part of this community as you.”

Reaction from many people on social media was positive with others not so supportive in their comments.

Conor Byrne What a lovely thing to see. Some positive news desperately needed lately

Azeem Alvi I'm lost for words. I'm all up for integration and welcoming non Muslims to join Muslims during Iftar. But this guy who is Gay and Practising being a "Muslim" is doing nothing other than mocking the religion of Islam.

Mak Maro Let's all give a the media a great BIG round of applause. For continuously promoting news that will no doubt cause debate and divide. You are really doing a great job. We the mass are all the big losers here because instead of coming together as a society in order to fight many social injustices we are facing as a nation. We are divided therefore spend most of our time arguing about political and religious views between us and forget the bigger picture. #realtalk

Mohammad Bilal Irfan English people and people from other religions love muslims when we muslims behave like them...i mean what the hell is GAY IFTAR ...i hv no problem with anybody being GAY but u cant be a muslim and a GAY at same time.

Vinay Kumar Being GAY and a MUSLIM at same time is not possible, why, have you been dropped from sky, extra-terrestrial material ? Why Muslims project themselves as different?

Aliyah Bx There are so many ignorant comments on this post. I didn't realise you were all the perfect embodiment of Islam!? You all have no rights to judge someone for being Gay and Muslim. Instead of hating on our own, we should be showing support and solidarity.

Abigail Cox This is how people should be and should live. Take people for who they are and how they are, doesn't matter where they are from, their sexuality etc. If
Only more people out there were like this.

Anna Kerins Are people trying to say that this man shouldn't pray because he is gay please just a qestion not a debate I'm. Looking for

Wasim Khan This kind of thing is the by product of the moderate muslim phenomenon and the type of thing the government of this country enjoy if your a practising muslim you should know that man on man is forbidden in Islam you cant be a muslim if your doing the things that Islam forbids gay iftar what a joke and disrespect to all Muslims and Islam.

Vicki Baars Doh! Never read the comments!!!! Great event, proud to have been there and share in the experience.
