Two women married to the same social media star who posed as an ‘exorcist’ have apologised to their followers.
Umm Abdullah al-Hasanat alongside her partner Abu Abdullah Hasanat have more than a million followers between them on Instagram.
They regularly shared videos of themselves conducting Ruqya’s (exorcisms). 'Ruqya' is treatment using the Quran and certain effective supplications which are said to have healing effects.
The videos were seen and shared by millions of users across the world.
On social media the couple were joined by a second woman, Sister Sarrah who it was said was the second wife of Hasanat.
Among others both women recently fronted a video entitled ‘The Jinn Series - Footlicking Jinn’ receiving 300,000 hits on YouTube.
And in this post shared on June 12 Umm Abdullah tells her followers that her friend and husband are now married.
In this video Umm Abdullah and Hasanat explain the issues concerning 'Evil Eye'. It was a familiar style through which Umm Abdullah aimed to smash steroetypes of veiled women.
Last week though users noticed that Umm Abdullah posts, when she is seen wearing a veil were similar of another user who is a model. This led to many more questioning the authenticity of the Ruqya services themselves.
Three days ago a message on Umm Abdullah’s social media pages stated that the account had been taken over by her family. It said, “Please note in light of recent events as of today Umm Abdullah’s social media accounts on all platforms have been taken over temporarily by her family.
"We can confirm that any recent posts/comments/messages that you may have seen/received from any of her accounts were not from her.
"At present Umm Abdullah is not in the best state in terms of health and well-being, therefore, we kindly ask for patience.
"We are currently looking into everything to establish all the facts."
Hasanat had posted a video on his Instagram page stating he would be talking about ‘recent allegations’.
“As you are aware there are a lot of allegations going around about myself and my family.
“It is only fair for me to clarify those doubts and refute those allegations. I will be making a video Inshallah and I will be releasing it.”
However, another video has yet to appear.
On her Instagram post Umm Abdullah today said, “Assalamualaikum Brothers and sisters.
“I just want you know that I am truly sorry for everything. After speaking to Ustad Moinal and my family I wanted to tell you all the truth.”
All other Instagram posts have now been removed.
Moinul Abū Hamza released this statement, seen by Asian Image on his Facebook page, on behalf of the two women, “I have been asked by Ruksana (otherwise known as Umm Abdullah), Sarrah (otherwise known as Sister Sarrah) and both their familes to write a short statement in relation to the recent events.
“This statement will address a significant issue that goes to the root of the relationship between Ruksana, Sarrah and Hasanat. None of these views are from Al-Madad Outreach, rather they are based upon the individuals involved and have been verified by my findings, to the best of my ability I shall share their testimony.
“I will not be including details of personal indiscretions as these are matters between a person and their Lord and are of no benefit to any Muslim, the aim is not to publicly humiliate another Muslim.
“Ruksana is the longest standing wife of Hasanat and the closest to him. Sarrah is a co-wife and has been married for several months.”
The statement adds, “Both Ruksana and Sarrah accept that they have been living a double life during their marriage to Hasanat; one that is Islamic which is portrayed on social media and another has been hidden out of sight even from their family, this is conclusive.
“It is not until recently that their families have become aware of such hidden behaviour, as a result their families have intervened out of love and are in the midst of dealing with the aftermath.”
In an emotional appeal posted on @Muslim Daily (@BirdsOfJannah) twitter feed Sister Sarrah said, “Nobody knows that in the past year I have been suffering from depression. Nobody knows that at points my Imaan was so low that it led to be not live anymore.
“Nobody knows that me and Hasanat have been married a while. You don’t these things as these are the things that we don’t want you to know.”
She added,”I have been pulled out of this situation and Hasanat is no longer a part of my life….and he never will be.
“I tend to build bridges with all the people I have hurt. I intend to better my mental health, my physical well-being and most importantly my connection with Allah.
“I pray you guys can forgive me.”
First official statement from Sister Sarrah seeking forgiveness from everyone and talking about the reality of their social media life including Hasanat and Umm Abdullah. There is much more to this story that we know and will be released soon in'shaa'Allah. pic.twitter.com/a3hmwYrgyV
