Our body is one big sensory organ and its no surprise the skin is the largest sensory organ of them all.
This kinda explains why we’re somewhat obsessed by what we put on it. Lotions, potions and perfumes we love the lot.
When it comes to wedding planning our 5 senses play a vital role in forming experiences and memories. From the tantalising menu of what will tickle our taste buds, to the visual delight of the bride and all that surrounds her.
It’s fair to say, scent plays a huge role too. How many times have you smelt something, which has triggered a memory and transported you back to that very moment? Wedding nostalgia is no different. I think it’s such a wonderful concept that you can layer fragrances on your wedding day, from the ones you wear to the aromas that fill your wedding venue.
Surprisingly its not as complicated or as costly as you may think and the research process is a lot of fun and very relaxing.
Jo Malone fragrances are so unique in the sense that they layer beautifully well as they all compliment each other. Something I learnt when I was invited for a scented wedding experience with them at John Lewis.
Now, brides to be, listen up. This is a complimentary service that is offered, whereby you get to have a free consultation to establish your favourite scents and how to get the most out of them on your wedding day. I wasn't aware such a service existed but I’m so impressed by it and so glad that it does.
All I can say is that it’s thoroughly worth the visit, I couldn't help but gush over the miniature samples you get to keep from your experience which are beyond adorable, and which might I add, true to the brand and its appeal is wrapped in the most decadent way.
As I pretended to be a bride considering all her finer details, I couldn’t help but wish I could be teleported back in time to 16 years ago, where my whole wedding could have smelt of me! The key is to layer.
In doing so the fragrance is deeper imbedded into the skin and together with your own body temperature is slowly released throughout the day.
I have to say the complimentary hand and arm massage was received with thanks! In fact I didn't want it to end it was so nice. The hot flannels infused with bath oil and moisturisers lifted my senses to the next hemisphere.
I learnt how you start with the deeper notes and then layer with the lighter ones on top and not the other way around. I was becoming quite the fragrance connoisseur and loving it.
It doesn't end there. There are hair mists, candles and linen sprays that all work harmoniously together. Imagine sitting down with a Jo Malone candle at each table and subtle wafts of the linen spray coming from your seat covers, napkins and table covers? Sounds utterly divine doesn't it?
One bottle of linen spray would suffice at £46 and a small candle giving a burning time of 15 hours at £23 each. If on a budget why not just put them on the head table only?
Yes, it’s an opulent touch to your wedding, but given all the other areas where expenses are splurged, it’s simply another magical touch you might want to consider.
If you’re anything like me and find yourself pondering over what to gift a new bride, Jo Malone do a beautiful wedding lace version of your favourite fragrances and candles, such a beautiful touch and makes for a wonderful keepsake.
Anything for a hassle free, fragrant life!
