A fundraiser who was planning to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for charity fell from a cliff near Dovestones in Oldham and has suffered 'severe injuries'.

Mofozzul Choudhury, 38, was airlifted by Oldham Mountain Rescue on Tuesday afternoon. The activist who survived cancer is a humanitarian who climbed Mount Snowdon in October last year.

A close family friend said: “He has been taken to a hospital in Sheffield. At the moment no one is allowed to see him except his wife as he has suffered a serious head injury. He has been in theatre for eight hours and is in a stable condition but is not out of danger.

“He wanted to show people that you can make a difference in the community even if you have an illness. He proved that having cancer shouldn’t stop you from carrying out charity work.

"The father of three campaigns for the NHS in gratitude for helping him with his cancer and another charity, GRT. He was training in preparation for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. He raises money for both the UK and Bangladesh."

Oldham Mountain Rescue stated: “At lunchtime on Tuesday, we were contacted by North West Ambulance Service who had received reports of a male falling from the Trinnacle on Ravenstones. Due to the potential for serious injuries following a fall from height, Yorkshire Air Ambulance were also requested.

“We would urge people to take extra care when walking near steep ground and crag tops, especially when it is very windy. Sending our positive thoughts to the casualty and his family.”
