A TRAVELLER has been fined more than £5,000 after he failed to self-isolate when returning from overseas.
Mohammed Abbas arrived into the UK from Pakistan in November before breaching rules that were in place at the time to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
According to court documents, Abbas failed to stay isolating in his Richmond Hill Street, Accrington, home for the mandatory 10-day period.
As a result, he appeared in Blackburn Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to the breach.
In May the 37-year-old was ordered to pay a whopping £5,452 by the courts, made up of a £5,172 fine, £190 to fund victim services and £90 in costs.
Dozens of people from across East Lancashire have appeared before the courts over the last six months after failing to self-isolate having returned from overseas.
As it stands, Pakistan is on England’s travel red list, meaning people should not be making trips to and from the county.
Only people who are citizen or resident in England is permitted entry to the country if they have recently been in a red list location.
If they do enter the country they are required to pay to spend 10 days in Government isolation hotel.
