Volunteers from the ‘Dawat e Islami’ group took part in a major street clean in Blackburn.

The team of thirty collected 50 bags of rubbish in the Little Harwood area during the weekend.

A volunteer from the group said: “Dawat e Islami has started a keep our communities clean initiative in Blackburn. “Today we focused on the Little Harwood area and wish to thank all volunteers, local members of the community and Blackburn Councillors who supported us with the litter pick.

We had over 30 volunteers and filled almost 50 bags of rubbish. It was great that Councillor Suleman Khonat and Councillor Hussain Akhtar joined us.

“We are planning a community clean up every month and hope residents can support us with this good work.”

The charity had previously submitted an application to the local council for a change of use for the former Public House on Whalley Old Road, next to the Community Centre, to a place of worship which was approved earlier this year.

The legal paperwork is currently being processed for the purchase of the building.
