Fire crews have said they were overjoyed at the response from young people as they showcased some of the skills needed to be a fire fighter.
Community Fire Safety practitioners Mohamed-Yusuf Lorgat and Fakhar Assi coordinated the service’s involvement at the Halal Food Festival at Ewood Park earlier this month.
The team from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spoke to over 300 attendees, promoting fire safety and encouraging people to consider a career with the service.
They also showed their firefighting equipment and kit to everyone from children to the elderly, demonstrating how the service works hard to make Lancashire safer.
Mohamed-Yusuf said: “It was a productive day, providing lots of home fire safety advice to people in the community.
"We engaged with people from many different walks of life, having some excellent conversations around home fire safety, including the importance of having working smoke alarms in your home.
“We also connected with some members of the public who we deemed to be at high risk of a fire.
"We’ve now referred these individuals to their local community fire safety teams. They will receive extra help and advice to make sure their living arrangements are as safe as possible.
“That’s without even mentioning the delicious halal food at the festival!”
Fakhar said: “The community fire safety team worked together with Blackburn’s Blue Watch at this event. I’d like to thank Crew Manager Mark Hoyle and his team for taking the time out over a very busy weekend to support us.
"Their attendance helped us engage with the diverse communities of Blackburn with Darwen and even stimulated some great conversations with families that were here from as far afield as France and Algeria!
“High praise was given to the crew by Mayor Khonat, who is a great supporter of Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and in particular Blackburn Fire Station.”
The demonstrations proved to be a bit hit with attendees
The Mayor Cllr Suleman Khonat visted the teams to lend them his support
