A woman has spoken of her shock following an assault after in meal in Birmingham – an attack she suspects may have been carried out to get reaction on social media.

Taera Parveen was out with family and friends in Birmingham last Thursday evening when the attack occurred.

After leaving a restaurant, she said that’s when her attackers, a man and a woman, came at her and her daughter.

Mrs Parveen of Bradford said: “I was in Birmingham for four days visiting friends. We decided to have a meal out before coming home to Bradford, and then this incident happened outside the restaurant.

“They sped up from the road in a car, and they came at me from behind.

“He whacked me on the top of my head with the bottom of his knife and she slapped and punched me. I thought I was going to die.

“I’m in pain,” said  Taera. “I have a blood clot in my eye and my head is bruised.

“My 15-year-old daughter witnessed everything, and she too got smacked in the face.

“I called 999 and when they realised that, they also stole my phone.

“The police came immediately. They heard the sirens and the man said to the woman: ‘Mum quick, I think the police are coming. Let’s go. They left in a scruffy grey car."

But the shocking thing for Mrs Parveen was that she suspected her attackers were filming the assault.

“They’ve streamed it on social media. I got a friend who told me they streamed it because she saw it.

“This is really very bad, especially when they’re attacking children.

“This assault happened out of the blue. It was a really bad experience and it’s been on social media.

“Something has to be done to stop all of this abuse and violence. This is why I’ve come forward.

“You can’t just destroy other people’s lives.

“It’s affected my life and my daughter’s life.

“My daughter is scared to go out.”

West Midlands Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We were called to Garrison Lane, Birmingham, at around 10pm on Thursday. (February) following reports of an assault.

“A woman was found with injuries not believed to be life threatening and was taken to hospital.

“Enquiries are ongoing as we continue to investigate.

“Anyone with information is asked to get in touch with us quoting 20/240709/24.”
