Women from diverse backgrounds came together at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Preston to celebrate the International Women’s Day (IWD).
The event entitled ‘Celebrating Women: Uplifting Communities’ focused on how everyone can be an advocate for harmony and draw inspiration from women past and present.
The programme delved into the challenges faced by individuals and communities amid the pandemic and ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
It featured video presentations, inspiring testimonies, and a panel discussion.
Guests and panelists included, HHJ Sara Dodd, Judge Dunlop, Helen Wright, headteacher, St Stephen’s School, Preston, Cllr Mel Close, CEO, Disability First shared their personal experiences on the ‘significance of positivity, kindness, and community’ impact.
When asked to give one piece of advice for staying happy and positive, panelist members all echoed the same message: “Always smile and believe in yourself.”
Other guests included Mrs Craig, Chair of Building Bridges and headteachers Mrs Hall from Penwortham Girls’ High School and Mrs Slater from Lea Primary School.
Dharia Patel, a volunteer at BAPS Preston, added, “His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj regularly reminds us that we should always be striving to selflessly serve others for the greater good of the world and teaches us that unity in diversity is our biggest strength.
“Together, we can build bridges and foster understanding, enabling us to pave the way for making a meaningful difference and uplifting our communities. In celebration of International Women’s Day this year, we hope this programme empowered women to take that small step and positively impact the society we live in.”
