HEARTFELT tributes have been paid to a Bradford man who has been referred to as “one of life’s good ones”.
The funeral for Mohammed Aerfan Qurban, 54, of Bradford, was held yesterday (Friday) after he died in hospital following an altercation outside a pub in Pontefract where he was a doorman.
The incident took place just before 10pm on September 28 outside the Beastfair Vaults in Pontefract. A 31-year-old man has been arrested and bailed by police.
Mr Qurban died on October 4 in hospital and the police are treating his death as “unexplained” as they investigate.
Scott Wilson, the owner of Beastfair Vaults, paid a heartfelt tribute to Mr Qurban, who had been employed at the pub as doorman for just over six months.
Mr Wilson said: “He was a genuinely nice guy and was one of life’s good ones.
“He got on well with the customers and the staff. We were all heartbroken.
“Everybody called him Alfie because that’s what he always wanted to be called.
“He was a really good guy.”
Another Bradford resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, also paid tribute to Mr Qurban.
She said: “He was a very well-known man in the community.
“He was a very gentle man and was a good doorman. He was brilliant.”
A notification on Janaza Announcements’ Facebook page said that Mohammed Aerfan Qurban, 54, had passed away.
His funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the Madni Jamia Masjid in Bradford with a burial after in Scholemoor Cemetery.
West Yorkshire Police have also issued a statement the incident in September.
A police spokesperson said: “Police are investigating after a man died after an altercation outside the Beastfair Vaults, Pontefract on Saturday, September 28.
“Officers were called at 9.55pm to reports that a man needed medical treatment.
“The man was taken to hospital. Sadly, he passed away on October 4 in hospital. “Mohammed Qurban, aged 54, from Bradford’s death is currently being treated as unexplained.
“A 31-year-old man was arrested at the time of the incident and has been released on Police bail pending further enquiries. “Specially trained officers are supporting the family.
“Officers would continue to appeal to anyone who was in the pub at the time or Pontefract town centre that may have witnessed or have footage of the incident to come forward.
