A man defecated in a police van and smeared it across a wall.

Brian Jones was arrested at Spice Cottage in Provanhall, Glasgow, on May 15, 2024, after he shouted racist abuse at staff and threatened to burn down the premises.

As he was taken to the police vehicle, he told officers: “I will go to court because of these black b*******”.

He continued: “I will go to court tomorrow, I don’t give a f***, I have done worse sentences than you know, I don’t care”.

The 45-year-old continued to swear and shout and called one cop a "fenian b******”.

He added: “I will stab the f*** out of you and murder you”, “I will stick your neck”, “Your maw probably hates you if she’s alive, I bet she’s dead”, “I will finger your wean, you p****”.

While in the police van, he urinated, defecated and smeared it all across the vehicle.

The Stranraer resident was transported to Coatbridge police station. Still in the vehicle, he defecated again and said: “Whoever opens this van to get me out is getting covered”.

Officers took him to a cell, where he defecated for a third time and smeared it across the wall again.

Jones appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court after he pleaded guilty to the offences.

His lawyer said: "This is very serious, there is no getting away from that. It’s appalling and disgusting conduct.

"He is no stranger to the criminal justice system but the rate of offending was reduced significantly. He is making significant steps to improve his circumstances.

"He reconciled with his long-term partner. He self-referred for a mental health assessment. He has been getting help from his GP.

"He fully accepts that the threshold for custody has been met but he needs a chance to prove he can behave himself. The root cause of his offending is the combination of alcohol and illicit substances.

"On this day, he bumped into an old associate and he believes he took some street Valium. He has no recollection after."

Sheriff Mary Shields told Jones: "Anything that could have been said on your behalf was said. I recognise you are making progress but I am satisfied in this case there are no alternatives to custody."

He was jailed for six months.
