RESIDENTS spoke of their "sadness" and "distress at a life cut short" after a man died in a crash on a Bradford road in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A 34-year-old man, who has been named locally as Mohammed Wahid, died after a car collided with a wall at the junction of Moorhead Lane and Beechwood Avenue in Shipley just before 1am on Saturday.

"I don't how people and families process it," said one local Shipley resident. "A life cut short like that very distressing.

"It's just really, really sad. Bless him and his family."

"I heard the crash," said another resident. "There was a big emergency response.

"It's really horrible when accidents like this happen."

One resident said the crash had been "unsettling" for local residents.

And another resident said: "I was in bed when it happened. It's very sad indeed.

"One of my neighbours told a group of us what happened. We all were very upset."

Police, the ambulance service and the fire service were called at 12.59am Saturday to the scene of a crash at the junction of Moorhead Lane and Beechwood Avenue.

The man was given emergency treatment at the scene but died a short time later.

The man has been named locally as Mohammed Wahid, 34, and on Saturday morning his death was reported on Muslim bereavement service Janaza Announcements, who said he passed away in a "tragic crash".

In a full statement about the crash, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died in a road traffic collision in Shipley.

"At 12.59am on Saturday, police were contacted by the ambulance service who were attending a single vehicle collision in Moorhead Lane at the junction with Beechwood Avenue.

"A blue Renault Captur, which had been travelling north-east towards Saltaire, had collided with a wall.

"The driver, a 34-year-old man from Bradford, was given emergency treatment but was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

"A road closure remained in place while the scene was being cleared.

"Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicle being driven in the area in the time leading up to it, particularly anyone with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage, to contact them.
