Based on Charlotte Street in the heart of Blackburn, Pizza Island doesn't really look much from the outside. But I have learnt through many years that looks aren't everything.
These guys set up in 1997 (about the same time as Asian Image I'm told) and since then have been dishing out some great food.
So much so so they opened another one recently on Whalley New Road in the town.
I decided to surprise the owners and go for a pizza. The sepcial' pizza as it was called came with tandoori chicken (carefully diced and then chopped), peppars, sweetcorn and the freshest green chilli I've ever come across. And I also asked them to throw in some donner meat, chicken nuggets and some fries.
Now, I've had pizzas in my lifetime but this one had the makings of a legend. It seemed to have been crafted like some priceless sculpture and then put in a box. I'm not just saying that - whoever made my pizza that day needs to honoured and knighted.
Pizza Island also has it's own range of sauces and they come in small pocket size bottles. A great idea and I must say with some great taste.
It's surprises me then though that they shut up shop at 11pm but when you know you're talented I guess it's okay to have an early night.
