During the recent mini heatwave I decided to do something we should all do during the summer go to a barbeque.
In my case it was going to the newly opened Barbeque Base in Bolton (or should I say Bar B Q Base?) The plush exterior, that brand new smell and vibrant colours was really refreshing, but you know what they say about these new' places. The food always comes a close second.
It was about time I found out.
So having had a good look around the joint I mulled over the detailed menu. They had some unique dishes on offer, some I had never ever heard before.
it was tough choosing from the list but eventually I chose among other things the Steak sizzlers, the Barbeque chicken, the Jerk Sandwich and a set of chicken wings.
I am more than happy when people take some time and effort to make the food rather than just dumping it front of me. It adds to the flavour.
Here at the Bar B Q Base they ensure the dish comes freshly cooked but properly cooked.
It is an art sadly lost by some eateiries who are more concerned with efficiency than simple quality.
At the Bar BQ Base the meat portions are cooked on one hell of a grill! The kind you can imagine Robin Hood and his merry men sitting around hundreds of years ago. It was impressive to say the least.
And when food's cooked the old way you can't really go wrong with the taste. The chicken wings and Jerk Sandwich were memorable.
What I particularly liked about the Bar B Q Base was the family friendliness of it.
A children's play and eating area is long overdue for an Asian-style restaurant but at Bar BQ Base they seemed have done their homework.
It has long been a dream of mine to go out with the family and not have to sit my kids on my lap the whole evening through. Now maybe I can On top of all that there was something for the more enlightened of us a dedicated coffee bar and hooka section.
All round the Bar B Q Base wasn't what I expected from a modern restaurant /takeaway.
It turned out to be stylish, different, new and with some great food.
