As a HEO Caseworker for the Disclosure & Barring Service you will undertake the handling of casework and associated tasks, exercising judgement and interpretative ability using defined business rules, regulations and/or legislation and relevant good practice and precedent. Following a period of training, with mentoring support provided by experienced caseworkers, you will consider a wide range of factors, evaluate and consider the facts of a case and exercise sound judgement to make appropriate, rational and often difficult decisions.
You’ll need to stay on top of your workload, be able to liaise with a wide range of people on a daily basis to ensure that all voices are heard, whilst providing information to senior management in order to improve the quality of service for the DBS.
While this is a rewarding role, the successful applicants will need to show their resilience as the nature of the casework can be challenging, with case material sometimes relating to harm caused to vulnerable people. You don’t have to deal with this alone however, with the support of your close-knit team, access to assistance and comprehensive guidance available to help you should you need it.
The role is based in Darlington, however DBS are committed to providing flexibility to their staff which would allow the successful candidate to work remotely for a proportion of their contractual hours. The expectation is that the successful candidate would visit the office at least once a month as a minimum, offering you flexibility for your work-life balance but also ensuring that you form connections in the office that could help you in the future as your progress. As such, applications from candidates who reside in a non-typical geographical commuting distance to Darlington are very much welcome to apply.
