A STORE manager said he ‘hasn’t backed down’ after being a target to recent break ins.
Simrit Dhaliwal, 20, stepped up as the new manager of the Co-op, on Windsor Road, Wraysbury, Windsor in August last year.
And since then, he has seen the shop have a string of burglaries, including one on December 16, where a trio of men stole cash from the tills.
But Mr Dhaliwal said this hasn’t stopped the supermarket from providing its service in the village.
He said: “I was overwhelmed when I took over as I had two break ins at the same time, and I just didn’t know what to do.
“It was a knockdown but we weren’t closed for too long."
Mr Dhaliwal explained he’s implemented new changes on how the supermarket operates to make it more safe at night.
He said: “We, as a store, are trying our best, and what the burglaries have shown us is how we can change and make our shop safer.”
Mr Dhaliwal added since taking over the supermarket he has received positive responses from residents.
He said: “We get more regular customers coming in now, with people doing their regular shop, and that’s had a good impact on the store.
“We’ve held some charity events, we always do raffles in the store, and we’re currently raising money for Mind, because there’s still loads of people struggling from covid.”
He added the team also does litters picks twice a month.
And Mr Dhaliwal also organised to deliver postcards to nearby neighbours, which had written personal messages inside.
The aim of the cards was to speak to residents and check in on how they're doing.
Mr Dhaliwal said he will continue to put together more community and charity events throughout the year.
He said: “It’s been a bit of an obstacle and a big journey to get to where we are, but this year we’ve started a fresh and have already had a great response from our customers.”
