Two Oldham men are set to set to open a specialist burger restaurant and takeaway on the site of a former pub.
Mansoor Khan and his business partner Rizwan Alam have spent more than £50,000 refurbishing the building on Manchester Street in the town.
Both are born and raised in Oldham said they wanted to contribute to Oldham’s thriving fast food eateries and have launched ‘Burger Co’.
They had the idea for smash burgers six years ago but didn’t have the funds and franchises were deemed too expensive.
Rizwan, a chef, said: “We started making burgers for family and friends and everyone loved them. We held a charity event three years ago and people loved the burgers so much they kept coming back for more. We sold 600 burgers in under three hours.”
“We set about finding a location, and discovered 300 Manchester Street, formerly The Queens Hotel pub. Due to its rich history we wanted to preserve the heritage of the building by offering something unique to the Oldham Community.”
“Each layer of our burgers are carefully considered from the bun to the meat and the sauce. We pride ourselves in using fresh ingredients including salads and freshly ground meat patties to give the best customer experience. We hope the community in Oldham will love the taste and service at Burger Co.”
Mansoor, a graphic and web designer said: “We pride ourselves on serving up fresh affordable meals with no frozen or processed ingredients. Some of the loaded burgers you can indulge in are The Beef Smash and the Original Chicken.
“We have a machine that seals the cans so that you can enjoy the drink in its original carbonated form. Some of the drinks to look out for are Pina Colada and Mint Mojito.”
He said: “We both have children so we realise the importance of being family-friendly. We have 24 seats and private bookings are available for special occasions such as birthdays and parties.
“Given the market and the rising cost of living we have kept our prices as low as possible.”
Both friends have always had a love for charity and contributing back to the community and as a result they have approached local charity organisations to offer a ‘day of giving’ when all proceeds from sales will go towards charity.
Mansoor added: “In the future we hope to open a not-for- profit fast food store to help families who are struggling to make ends meet. It’s sad when we hear that people living in the UK can’t afford to eat out even once a month.”
Burger Co is opening on Saturday 10 December and to celebrate the launch all burger meals will be half price.
