A headteacher has thanked volunteers and visitors who helped to raise £9,000 for a Girls’ High school.

The Al Islah Girls’ High School fundraising day in Audley attracted people from across Blackburn, who were treated to a day of food, arts and crafts.

The Deputy Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Council, Cllr Parwaiz Akhtar was joined by Blackburn MP Kate Hollern, Leader of the Council, Cllr Phil Riley and the Central Ward Councillors Mahfooz Hussain, Zamir Khan and Samim Desai at the event.

Chair of Governors, Hasan Desai, said: “It was great to see people from all communities attending the event. 

“This would not have been possible without the support and donations of the local businesses, charities and the community.

"I would like to thank each and every one of you for your generous support. 

“Behind every successful event we need a dedicated and a strong team. 

“Al Islah is privileged to have a dedicated team of governors, trustees, head teacher, staff, students and team of volunteers that worked so hard to make the event successful."

Al Islah headteacher, Mrs Nikhat Pardesi, said: "We hold a community fundraising event annually and this has been the most successful one yet for us.

"It was brilliant to see the whole community come together and to see so many respected local ward councillors supporting the event. 

“It was lovely to meet our respected MP Kate Hollern again and the Deputy Mayor Parvaiz Akhtar. 

“I couldn't be any prouder of all the Al Islah family who helped organise the event."
