The family of a biochemist are set to remember the life of their “precious” brother at a vigil this weekend.
Farooq Ali, 44, was found dead in his room at the Ramada by Wyndham Islamabad hotel on March 16.
It has sparked a long battle for answers from Pakistan authorities over the circumstances leading up to the aspiring author’s tragic death.
Almost a year since the night in question, the Ali family has vowed to continue its fight.
“We’re still stuck in a nightmare,” said Dr Rehiana Ali, who has temporarily returned from Pakistan and is one of Farooq's sisters.
“I keep saying that you don’t think these things will ever happen to you. You see the reports. I still wake up and think this is not my life.
“Farooq was extraordinarily special and loved as a brother. The family’s going to keep going until we get answers and we want them [people] to stand with us.
“My brother was precious.”
It comes as the family, which has continued to push authorities for a trial, waits for the result of a High Court hearing in Islamabad.
A vigil in Farooq’s memory is set to take place between 1pm and 2pm on Saturday, January 28, in Centenary Square.
“It’s almost a year,” Dr Ali said.
“It’s been tough. I don’t think there’s been a day without tears. The resilience is there, no one wants to drop this.
“All we want really is answers. That will help.
“I’m hoping the High Court judge will make this decision for trial.
“I’m between Belfast and Yorkshire. I don’t really know where I am. It’s been a bit of a crazy few weeks.”
Bradford West MP Naz Shah previously held a press conference about Farooq’s death in August.
The politician spoke alongside his sister Yasmin and brother and sister-in-law Yusuf and Abda.
Backing the call for more Government pressure on Pakistan, Ms Shah said: “Why is it being kicked into the long grass? I recognise there’s a crisis with the country [major flooding in Pakistan] but that does not stop the country from functioning. We’re into the eighth month since his death, since his body was found.”
