Comedians will join spoken word artists over a 10 day tour showcasing the 'cream' of British Muslim showbiz talent.
Charity Penny Appeal is launching its biggest-ever Muslim Variety Show in the UK. The tour will open in East London on 17 June and will include poets, Nasheed Singers, comics and theatrical performers.
It will then take in North London, Manchester, Bradford, Blackburn, Luton, Leicester, Walsall, Glasgow and Birmingham.
BBC comedian and actor Abdullah Afzal – best known from the BBC’s hit show Citizen Khan is hosting the event. Audiences will also be able to see other established acts such as spoken word artists Sukina Pilgrim and Faisal Salah, Nasheed artists Safe Adam and Ismail Hussain as well as Prince Abdi and Aatif Nawaz.
There will be a special performance from Neelain Drummers, a collective of drummers and poets from Africa and the Middle East.
The Big Muslim Variety Show will also introduce the talents of Sajal, an Italian-Pakistani singer and Chifa, a writer-performer.
The shows aim to raise funds for Penny Appeal’s OrphanKind programme to give orphan children a happy, healthy childhood and the opportunity to build a brighter future.
