AFC Preston claimed their very first scalp in this tournament with a famous victory over Blackburn United.
Two relatively young sides went head to head in this highly anticipated fixture.
For long periods and especially after United went ahead it looked like Preston would be heading out at the same stage that has jinxed them in recent years.
United had several good chances in the first half to put themselves in the driving seat and this tie looked like going to league standings when United did eventually go ahead.
It took that goal to stir the Preston masses and they got themselves back on level terms within ten minutes. They went on to hit the post and United again squandered another good chance.
In extra-time Preston grew in confidence and duly got the winner after some good pressure.
Preston now go on to meet Halifax Hammers in the semis who would be foolish to underestimate them.
